I am sharing the following letter
received from a fellow
men's volleyball fan.
Middle Hitter |
Dear USAV Boys’
Volleyball Enthusiast,
You may have
heard that East Stroudsburg
University is considering
eliminating their varsity men’s
volleyball team at the
conclusion of this season.
Whether you are an alumni of ESU,
work with athletes that have the
capability of playing at the
NCAA level, or are just a
supporter of boys’ and men’s
volleyball in the US it is
vitally important that you voice
your concern over such a
decision by the university. I
am asking that you take some
time to write a letter, email,
or make a phone call to those
individuals listed below. Let
them know that you support
volleyball and that you are
concerned with their decision to
eliminate a men’s NCAA varsity
program at a time when USA men’s
volleyball is performing at the
highest level in the world. In
the past year we have won the
World League for the first time
in history, returned from the
Olympics with gold medals in
both indoor and beach, and won
the NORCECA Boy’s Youth
Continental Championship. This
is certainly no time for us to
reduce the opportunities for
guys to play at the NCAA level.
As a supporter of
boys’ and men’s volleyball in
the US it is partially your
responsibility to help expand
and grow the sport. Losing a
varsity college program is
detrimental to the growth of the
sport for all of us. I have
attached a letter that you are
welcome to send once you have
titled and signed it. If you
would rather use the letter as a
template or draft a letter of
your own feel free to do so.
Print it on you club or school
letterhead to enhance the
impact. Please send a copy of
this email to players, parents,
coaches, officials, and fans of
men’s volleyball and ask them to
take a stand. Your
participation is critical in
this success of this letter
writing campaign.
Your letters
should be received by the
university next week. The
intention is to have all
communications reach the school
within a few days so that the
impact will be greatest.
There is an important meeting
scheduled between school
administrators and volleyball
alumni on October 4th.
If you can make arrangements to
contact the school and ask that
other supporters do the same by
that time it would go a long way
to helping save the men’s
varsity volleyball team at East
Stroudsburg.
